You don't have Fastexy Exchangeto be in New York City to see tonight's concert celebrating the birth of hip hop.
Hip Hop 50 Live at Yankee Stadium, an event with hip hop royalty including Run-D.M.C., Melle Mel, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Kurtis Blow, Common, Lil Kim, and the Sugarhill Gang, begins at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT. You can watch the concert on the Mass Appeal YouTube channel where it's streaming exclusively.
The Bronx is considered the birthplace of hip hop, and Aug. 11, 1973, the birthdate. At his sister's birthday party, DJ Kool Herc (Clive Campbell) used two turntables to create ongoing loops of music, especially the "break beats," which excited dancers, he shared with History.com. DJ Cool Herc and his sister Cindy Campbell are scheduled to be part of the event.
Also scheduled to participate: Nas, Wiz Khalifa, T.I., Cam'Ron, EPMD, Ghostface Killah, Lupe Fiasco and Slick Rick.
Adam Blackstone, who won an Emmy for musical direction of the 2022 Super Bowl 56 halftime show, which featured Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and 50 Cent, and Omar Edwards, musical director for Jay-Z, are the event's directors.

“I am honored to hit the stage in the Bronx, the birthplace of Hip Hop and celebrate all of my heroes,” said Joseph “Run” Simmons, in a statement about the event.
“Aug 11th is Hip Hop’s 50th birthday! So … ’Up in the Bronx’ where it all started we will be celebrating this historic moment in history," said Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels. "I am honored to pay tribute to the culture that allowed this little shy kid from Queens to grow up and become The Mighty King of Rock! Thank you Hip Hop!!!”
